What are credits in MechUp?
Credits are the balance the AI in MechUp uses to get work done for you. Every time the AI does something for you, such as drafting a reply to a customer question, summarising a conversation or preparing a quote, it uses a small number of credits. That way you only pay for the work the AI actually takes off your hands.
All regular MechUp features work without credits. Creating job cards, managing the schedule, sending invoices or managing customers and vehicles never costs anything extra. Credits are only about AI: the smart part of the workshop system that thinks and works along with you.
Every plan includes a fixed number of credits per month. That means you know where you stand in advance, while keeping the freedom to use the AI wherever it saves your workshop the most time.
Why does MechUp use credits?
A lot of workshop software charges per user, so every new mechanic, apprentice or front-desk employee raises the bill. MechUp deliberately doesn't: Professional supports up to 5 users; Business and Enterprise include unlimited users. Customers are unlimited on every plan. You choose the plan that fits your team size.
AI does use real computing power. Tying that to credits keeps the monthly price low for workshops that use AI occasionally, while businesses that rely on it heavily pay proportionally. That is fairer than a fixed AI surcharge everyone pays, even when they barely use it.
It also makes the value of the AI visible. You can see how many replies, summaries and prepared quotes the AI produced, and therefore how much retyping and calling back you saved.
What does the AI use credits for?
Inbox replies. When a question comes in via WhatsApp or email, like 'is my car ready yet?' or 'what does a major service cost?', the AI drafts a reply based on the job card, the schedule and your knowledge base. You check it and send it. This is usually the largest share of usage and costs about one credit per reply.
Summaries. The AI condenses long conversations, mechanics' notes or a busy job card into a few lines. Useful for handovers between colleagues, or when a customer calls back and you need to know quickly what's going on.
Preparing quotes and job cards. Based on a customer request or a mechanic's finding, the AI drafts a quote or job card with the right parts and labour. Because this involves more steps, it usually costs a few credits.
Agents and workflows. Agents carry out complete tasks, like reminding customers about an MOT or following up an unpaid invoice. An agent uses a few credits per task, depending on how many steps are involved.
How many credits does your workshop need?
A small garage or bike workshop with a few mechanics mainly lets the AI answer customer questions. With around ten AI replies per working day, the 250 credits in Professional are plenty.
A mid-sized workshop or machinery dealer also uses the AI for quotes, summaries and following up extra work. Business with 1,000 credits a month fits better: enough for over forty AI actions per working day, or a mix with agents.
Businesses with multiple locations or a large fleet use agents for recurring tasks. For them we agree custom terms in Enterprise, so the number of credits matches actual usage.
Stay in control of usage
In the AI settings you decide which actions the AI may perform and how many credits may be used. That prevents surprises and keeps the AI focused where you want it.
If your credits run out, MechUp keeps working. Job cards, scheduling, invoices and payments carry on; only the AI features pause until the new month starts or you buy extra credits.
Credits versus traditional workshop software
Traditional garage software is often combined with separate tools: a separate chat app, a standalone AI subscription and extra licences per user. That means multiple bills and data you have to retype between systems.
In MechUp everything lives in one system, and the AI works directly with your own job cards, customers and schedule. Credits aren't an extra cost item, but the way you pay for an assistant that truly knows what happens in your workshop.
